Report:

      • Write a concise paragraph (and post) that included.
        • Introduction of your research question.
        • Summary of your methodology and data collection process.  In other words, how did you search.
        • Presentation of your findings with supporting data. Provide some specific numbers and/or visuals.
        • Discussion of the implications of your findings.
        • Conclusion reflecting on the cultural significance of these trends.

        Presentation:

        • Prepare and include at least one graphic (bar chart, line graph) the illustrates your findings.  Think of ways AI can help you do this.  ChatGPT (without plugins) can’t do this directly, but probably could give you ideas.  Google Sheets/Excel are obvious jumping off points.
    •  The proposed research analyzed trends in fast food culture, and measured the shifts in tastes and preferences of consumers through viewing search trends in the Corpus of Contemporary American English, or the COCA. Separate searches were performed for the fast food chains “Pizza Hut” and “Chipotle” in the COCA database, the frequency of mention between both restaurants was analyzed in order to determine the most common time period that the respective fast food chains were searched. After the analysis was completed, it was found that the search trend for “Pizza Hut” spiked in the 1990’s, as it was probable that the rise in popularity of fast service pizza contributed to the large excess in searches. Despite this, there is a massive decline in searches from the 2000’s-2010’s, demonstrating a shift in taste and popularity of the chain. Contrasting this, searches for Chipotle were not notable in the 1990’s, but saw a jump in the 2000’s-2010’s, showing a shift in taste for healthier fast food alternatives during this time. The search trends viewed on COCA describe how fast food preferences have evolved over time, demonstrating a lean towards healthier alternatives in the modern era.
